Lisa Jewell Books

The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell

The Family Upstairs follows the story of a young woman named Libby. Libby has learned that she has inherited a mansion in Chelsea. The mansion was owned by her parents, Henry and Martina Lamb. Newspapers reported the Lamb's death as a suicide pact, leaving baby Libby in the crib as a 10-month-old. As she claims the mansion, Libby and her friends, Dido and Miller, help her uncover the truth about how her parents died.

Libby discovers that her parents were once a wealthy and happy couple with two children, Henry Jr. and Lucy. Martina met a young woman by the name of Birdie Dunlop-Evers. Birdie told Martina that she and her boyfriend, Justin Redding, needed a place to live. The Lambs agreed to have Birdie and Justin stay with them. Then shortly after that, the Thomsens moved in upstairs.
As Libby uncovers more and more of the story, Henry Jr. And Lucy simultaneously tell their stories. As the three characters' stories intertwine, the reader journeys through the twisted and disturbing history of the family that once lived in the house. Lisa Jewell does an excellent job of building suspense and tension as she individually reveals the family's secrets.

The Family Remains by Lisa Jewell

The Family Remains is the sequel to the book The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell. The story starts with the discovery of bones found in the mud of the Thames River. Detective Samuel Owusu is determined to identify this person. The story shifts to the Lamb family, who are reunited and living together. Henry managed to track down Phineas Thomsen, whom he is still obsessed with. Henry, quite suddenly, decides to travel to Chicago to find Phineas.
The story shifts to Rachel Gold, married to Lucy’s ex-husband Michael Rimmer. Rachel’s narrative describes how she met Michael and the end of their marriage. Rachel and Lucy’s timelines cross a few times, giving the reader a solid understanding of Michael Rimmer. Lucy is alarmed by Henry’s sudden departure and heads to Chicago with her children to find him

My thoughts...

Lisa Jewell grew up in London and has authored over 20 books, including Then She Was Gone and The House We Grew Up In. Jewell’s writing becomes more robust and defined with each new book. Nineteen of Jewell’s books have made the New York Times bestseller list. Jewell’s books have sold over 10 million copies worldwide and have been translated into 29 languagesJewell is an excellent writer with a talent for creating various characters and storylines. The novels are fast-paced and hard to put down. These two books are highly recommended!
